Frequently Asked Questions: FAQs

When and where do these 5-day Intensive Outpatient Programs take place?

One week each month, at our confidential treatment offices in Los Angeles. Call for available dates.

What are the hours of the 5-day Intensive Outpatient Program?

Monday thru Friday, 10-5pm.

How many people attend the 5-day Intensive Outpatient Programs at one time?

A maximum of 8 people.

Are there additional charges?

While at SRI, you are responsible for your own accommodations and meals. We can provide you with a list of local recovery residences that can offer accountability and support while you are here and we highly recommend this option during your stay. If you prefer, you may choose to reside with local family, friends or at a local hotel.

Who conducts the 5-day Intensive Outpatient Programs?

Our entire clinical treatment staff is involved in each person's treatment. In addition, attendees are assigned a specific individual therapist who will track daily progress and provide individual therapy.

What makes your program different?

We have been successfully treating sexual addiction since 1995. Our Founding Director, Robert Weiss LCSW, CSAT (Sexual Disorders expert and author of Untangling the Web, Cruise Control and Cybersex Exposed), trained under the direction of Dr. Patrick Carnes and has been helping other professionals learn how to treat sexual addiction for over 15 years. Mr. Weiss has been a featured guest on Oprah, The Today Show and CNN among many others.

What is your cancellation/refund/transfer policy?

If you cancel at least 2 weeks in advance you will be eligible for a 50% refund of your deposit. If you cancel less than 2 weeks in advance there is no refund, however you may (one time only) switch your planned dates of attendance to a different date and your deposit will be extended to the new date.

Can my spouse attend the 5-Day IOP?

No, because these 5-day intensive treatment programs are designed for sexual addiction and sexual compulsivity recovery. It is not feasible to work with spouses and partners in such a short period of time. However, our 10-day treatment program does offer some spousal involvement.

What if I need more than the 5-day Intensive Outpatient Treatment?

The 5-day intensive is not designed to examine long-term underlying issues nor is it set up for family involvement. For a higher level of care you can consider our 10-day Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or speak to our staff about additional services while you are with us. It is not unusual for someone coming to SRI for a 5-day Intensive to decide to remain for an additional period of time.

Is this the same as 'therapy'?

Daily individual therapy is included as a part of our Intensive Programs, but in addition to this, our attendees are offered other essential tools for healing that other less specific therapies do not offer. Among these tools are extensive psycho-education, supportive group interaction, detailed written work and planning for long-term sexual health.

Can I get therapy while I'm there?

Individual therapy is offered daily to all 5- and 10-day IOP participants and is included in the price of our program. We are the only national treatment program to offer daily therapy as a part of outpatient Intensive Programming.

Will you contact my therapist or spouse?

When you will finish the week, you will have a written "Action Plan" that you may bring to your therapist or spouse to discuss your progress and direction. Other communication with spouses and partners is determined on a case-by-case basis. Those seeking more spousal involvement should consider our 10-day Intensive Program.
